Graham Potter has begun to repair his reputation at West Ham, following his terrible spell at Chelsea.
The Hammers boss lasted just over six months at Stamford Bridge and was considered clueless by many Chelsea fans toward the end of his reign.
He is now being linked with buying a Chelsea player for West Ham, but proceeding with a deal would do his reputation no favours.

West Ham linked with Robert Sánchez
It’s no secret that Potter is interested in signing a goalkeeper, following the departures of Łukasz Fabiański and potentially Alphonse Areola.
England stopper Aaron Ramsdale has been linked with a move to the London Stadium.

However, as reported by The Times on Monday (23 June), Potter is now considering Chelsea shot-stopper Robert Sánchez as an alternative.
Take a few seconds exploring the social media reaction to this news, and it will become clear what Chelsea fans think of Sánchez. He is generally regarded as not good enough by their fanbase, and several pundits have suggested the same.
If Potter proceeded with this transfer and it didn’t work out, that would be a serious blot on his record as a knowledgeable Premier League manager.

Potter has a tough goalkeeping decision to make
Sánchez was signed in 2023 by Potter’s replacement at Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino. It hasn’t been a popular signing among fans.
The 27-year-old’s time in West London has been littered with mistakes, and that’s why social media is awash with Chelsea fans begging Potter to take him off their hands.

Sánchez’s stats (2024/25)
There are legitimate reasons to choose Sánchez over Ramsdale. The former’s wages are believed to be far lower. The latter has suffered three Premier League relegations. But these won’t be enough to persuade fans he’s worth buying.
This isn’t the first time West Ham have been linked with Sánchez. There were rumours of the Hammers submitting a double-bid for him and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall earlier in June. Still, this goalkeeper is too risky for Potter to hang his hat on.
If he’s unconvinced by Areola, he should sell him. However, he would need to recruit a far more dependable replacement than Chelsea’s number one.
