NSW Cup Team (Round 17):

Sydney Roosters NSW Cup Coach Brett Morris has named his team for Saturday’s match against the Western Suburbs Magpies at Lidcombe Oval.

From the line-up that played Newcastle in Newcastle, prior to last weekend’s bye, the team welcomes back middle forwards Taylor Losalu and Makahesi Makatoa from NRL duty, with Makatoa replacing Zack Visconti at lock and Loaslu taking over from Xavier Va’a as a starting prop. Va’a goes back to the bench replacing Ethan Roberts, who, like Visconti, will play Jersey Flegg Cup on Saturday.

Toby Rodwell returns from Under 19s Origin duty in the halves, replacing Reece Foley (at five eighth), who will also play Jersey Flegg Cup this weekend. Captain Jake Elliott who started at hooker against Newcastle, and then moved to lock after 18 minutes, has again been named as the starting hooker, with Tyler Moriaty named on the bench.

If all five Roosters State of Origin representatives from the first two games of the series hold their spots for the decider, all their replacements in the Roosters 17 for the NRL’s match against the Wests Tigers in Round 18 are expected to come from this NSW Cup side.

The Roosters are currently in 6th place on the table and this match against the 9th placed Magpies is their first clash since the Roosters beat them 64-6 in August last year.

Jersey Flegg Cup Team (Round 17):

Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg Cup Coach Dean Feeney has named his team for Saturday’s match against the Wests Tigers at Lidcombe Oval.

Co-captain Josh Durkin switches from five eighth to halfback, replacing Brooklyn Rosemeyer, with Reece Foley coming back into the side at five eighth. Jaxson Allen returns from Under 19s Origin duty at hooker, with Josiah Fesolai going back to the bench (replacing Joseph Currie), where he will likely provide backrow cover.

Also, in the forwards, Ethan Roberts drops back from NSW Cup and takes Julius Mitchell’s spot on the left edge, with Mitchell returning to the bench at the expense of Hayden Lammond. Mitchell and Kynan Tovai will be the two bench props.

The 9th Roosters are chasing a third successive win against the 7th placed Wests Tigers and can leapfrog them on the table with by winning by greater than 11 points.
