Sheffield United eye move for Premier League man this summer following Stoke City loan

Sheffield United are ‘keen’ on Liverpool attacker Lewis Koumas, as detailed in a report by the Daily Mail.

Sheffield United were linked with the player back in January, as per the Daily Mail. SUFC are now said to have retained their interest this summer.

Koumas, 19, spent last season on loan in the Championship at Stoke City. He made 49 appearances in all competitions for the Potters and chipped in with six goals.

In this latest update, the Daily Mail suggest the Blades want to lure him to Bramall Lane. They are in the hunt for new signings under new head coach Ruben Selles.

Wales manager Craig Bellamy told The Guardian last year: “With Lewis, every bit I’ve seen of him, I’ve just loved. Fearless. He’s one of those players who just, every time he has it, you feel like something’s going to happen, something positive happens.

“They’re the players you would love to coach or you’d love to just go and watch. I’m sure he would have looked at Aaron (Ramsey) for a number of years as well. Now, he gets to see what elite really looks like in a character like Aaron. I’d like to believe that’s going to develop a player like Lewis quicker.”

Sheffield United could see Koumas as someone to boost their attacking ranks. SUFC will be aiming for promotion from the second tier again in the next campaign after losing in the play-off final to Sunderland last month at Wembley.

The Wales international, who has six caps to his name so far, started his career at Tranmere Rovers. He then switched to Liverpool as a youngster and hasn’t looked back since.

He has been a regular for the Reds at various different youth levels to date. He also played once for their first-team before his move to Stoke City and scored in an FA Cup tie against Southampton.

Will Sheffield United land Lewis Koumas?

Sheffield United boss Selles will be looking to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad over the next couple of months with some reinforcements. SUFC have picked him as their replacement for Chris Wilder in a surprise move.

The Spaniard was sacked by Hull City following the end of last term. He has also managed Southampton and Reading in the past.

The Blades’ chances of securing Koumas’ signature will depend on what Liverpool’s plans are for him next. He is due to report back to Anfield for pre-season following the end of his temporary stay at Stoke City and they will be considering his options.
