Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool future has been under plenty of scrutiny over the last few weeks after he failed to have much of an impact during his debut season.
The Italy international was rarely played by Arne Slot, which led to the rumour mill starting to turn before the window had even opened.
Many clubs, such as AC Milan and Napoli, have been linked with an interest in Chiesa, even though he contributed to fewer than 10 goals this season.

However, a new team has now entered the frame with Chiesa seemingly a hot topic in the footballing world at the moment.
Federico Chiesa is now Atalanta’s ‘priority’ transfer target this summer
As per a report from Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Serie A outfit Atalanta are now targeting Chiesa as their ‘priority’ target this summer.
AS Roma have also entered the race for the attacker, but it’s Atalanta who have surfaced as front-runners.
The report adds that Atalanta are expecting to lose Ademola Lookman this summer, so Chiesa would be a perfect player to fit into their ranks, as he can play on the right wing as well as a striker.
Even though Chiesa didn’t have that much playing time under the Liverpool manager during the 2024-25 season, there were times when he showed glimpses of promise.

Indeed, he only cost Liverpool around £12.5million, so any sale would no doubt recoup the money they spent on him, which, at the end of the day, is what most clubs would want when signing a player.

Liverpool should keep Federico Chiesa around for another season
Once called “fantastic” by Rio Ferdinand, it’s clear that Chiesa has plenty of talent still within him.
The Italy international has had a couple of tough seasons after his ACL injury, which ruled him out for the best part of a year.
Many expected the winger to be the bargain of the summer after he was brought in, but in the end, he ended up being the Reds’ sixth-choice attacker.
However, with the rumours surrounding the futures of players such as Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, it feels silly for Liverpool to try and sell Chiesa this summer.
There are already a lot of changes underway at Anfield, with Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz being among the first players to be welcomed by Slot.
Player Fee paid
Florian Wirtz £116million
Jeremie Frimpong £29.5million
Armin Pecsi £1.5million
The three players Liverpool have brought in so far.
Indeed, the £10million or so that the Reds would receive for Chiesa’s sale would be able to get put towards a new player, but in reality, he’d be worth more to the club if he stayed on.
Chiesa staying at Liverpool would give them one less position to worry about and would also allow the former Juventus man a chance to prove his worth.
If both Nunez and Diaz depart this summer, it would also give Chiesa more of a chance due to there being fewer competitors for their first team.
At the end of the day, it’s up to Liverpool what they end up doing, but on the face of things, keeping him around doesn’t seem like too bad of an idea.
