For more than a month, Brentford have been working to sign Antoni Milambo. On June 11th, 1908.nl reported the Bees were close to reaching an agreement with Feyenoord.
Three days later, the 20-year-old said he’d visited Brentford’s facilities and has left his agent to sort out his future.
At the weekend, scouts Piet Buter and Hans van der Zee praised the Brentford target and backed him to have a bright future.
The attacking midfielder is currently with Netherlands U21, who will face England U21 in the Euros semi-final on Wednesday.
Ahead of this clash, De Telegraaf had a chat with Milambo and mentioned the English club’s interest.
The newspaper pointed out Brentford’s desire to sign him and then asked the player whether he’s ‘very busy with that’, meaning the negotiations with the Premier League side.
When responding to that, Milambo made it clear his focus is currently on the U21s, but did drop enough hints to let it be known he’s excited about the move.
“No [not very busy with Brentford], it is of course nice to read. But I have a contract with Feyenoord and am now busy with a tournament here. That is the most important thing. That is what I have to focus on,” he said.
“And then I will see what happens. It is a dream for me to play in the Premier League one day. Hopefully that will come true one day.”
Milambo managed seven goals and nine assists from 43 games for Feyenoord last season.
