Graham Potter is desperate for a new striker at West Ham this summer.

The Hammers struggled to score goals last season as they ended the campaign as the sixth-lowest scorers in the Premier League.

Niclas Fullkrug was signed from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but featured just 18 times in the top-flight, notching three goals and two assists in his first season in England.

The Irons cannot afford to repeat that mistake but it looks like they may be set to do so after a new transfer update.

West Ham set sights on Calvert-Lewin

The London Stadium outfit have long been credited with interest in Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and they could finally make a move.

A report from the i (24 June) claims that the Hammers have made contact with the former England forward over a free transfer.

It states that the 28-year-old, whose representatives are still in negotiations with the Blues, is yet to make a decision on his future.

Calvert-Lewin signing does not make sense for West Ham

The last thing that Potter needs is another striker who spends more time on the treatment table than on the pitch.

The Hammers are reportedly already looking to offload Fullkrug after his miserable debut campaign, despite signing him for £27million just one year ago.

Fullkrug came to East London after firing Dortmund to the Champions League final, notching 16 goals and 10 assists in all competitions in the 2023/24 season, but he has failed to make the same impact in E20.

Meanwhile, Calvert-Lewin featured 32 times in the top-flight that season but that was the only time that he has played over 26 matches in the last four campaigns.

His injury issues reared their head against last time out, as he featured 26 times, grabbing just three goals and one assist in a miserable campaign for the Toffees.

Potter needs a striker that is guaranteed to get between 10 to 15 goals in the league and the last time that the Blues star hit anywhere near that figure was in the 2020-21 season.

The former Three Lions ace is well past his prime, and if Potter signed him, it would probably be a similar story to Fullkrug’s time at the club, so a move should be avoided, even if it is for free.
