Aston Villa’s Philippe Coutinho has been on loan at Vasco da Gama since last summer and the temporary deal lasts until the end of this month.
Over the past few weeks, Vasco da Gama CEO Carlos Amodeo, manager Fernando Diniz, and their new sporting director Adamar Lopes, have publicly talked about their desire to extend the 33-year-old’s stay.
Coutinho’s contract at Aston Villa expires in 2026, and the Brazilian press have floated the possibility of him terminating his contract at Villa Park to join Vasco da Gama permanently this summer.
Terra reports Coutinho hasn’t managed to find an agreement with Aston Villa to terminate his contract. Therefore, the Brazilian club are looking to activate plan B, which is to sign him on loan until the end of this year.
Coutinho wants to extend his stay at Vasco da Gama. Terra state his ‘personal desire will weigh positively in the negotiations’, whether that’s the case remains to be seen.
Journalist Joel Silva, relayed by Bolavip Brasil, reports Coutinho’s agent is in direct talks with the Villans over finding a solution. He adds Unai Emery’s side are ‘resisting’ and don’t want to release him from his contract.
Silva claims a viable option for Vasco da Gama is to extend the attacking midfielder’s loan until December. This allows them to sign him for free in 2026 and also negotiate a pre-contract with the player next January.
The South American club still have to find an agreement with Aston Villa for the new loan deal.
