Victor Orta had enjoyed something of an upward career curve in recent years, despite not always being successful in his roles. The Spanish sporting director moved from Middlesbrough to Leeds United and then got the chance to replace his mentor Monchi at Sevilla.
Each move looked fortunate, with a general negative opinion of Orta among Middlesbrough fans, and whilst at Leeds United it can be argued he did better, the relegation clauses in multiple contracts allowing easy loans didn’t do the lasting impression any favours.
Stepping into Monchi’s shoes as he went off to Aston Villa was both a big task and a great opportunity which Orta probably wouldn’t have been given if he hadn’t worked under Monchi at Sevilla previously.
Unfortunately for all involved, it didn’t work out and Sevilla finished just one point and one place above relegation in the recently concluded La Liga season.
Bottom of the table was Real Valladolid, with 16 points from 38 matches, and Orta is now on the verge of taking over there, reports [ABC Sevilla](https://www.abc.es/sevilla/).
Sevilla had been waiting for Orta to walk so they didn’t have to pay compensation, but earlier this month they bit the bullet and paid up the final year of his contract. That leaves him free to take the Real Valladolid job and try to get them out of LaLiga2.
ABC Sevilla report the deal is almost finalised and could be announced this week.
