Soon to be popular?

Bucs fans are stoked for this season. There are high expectations.

A strong nucleus left over from the 2020 Super Bowl-winning season, a Pro Bowl quarterback, all 11 starters returning from a top-three offense the NFC South champion of the past four years, what’s not to like?

There is one question mark, the guy pulling the strings on offense.

Rookie offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard has an enviable task: taking over this great offense that added one of the best skill position players in the draft.

If the Bucs make any kind of postseason run and the offense stays superior, or even improves, Ben Solak of BSPN types that [Grizzard’s name](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45282248/2025-nfl-season-100-days-nuggets-predictions-stats-thoughts-lists) will be very popular among NFL owners looking for a new head coach.

> … Grizzard has had a quick rise in the NFL coaching ranks; he was first an offensive quality control coach with the Dolphins in 2017 and had only two years as a wide receivers coach in Miami before he got the job with the Bucs last season. At just 34 years old, and with experience under Mike McDaniel and Coen, it’s fair to have “next big thing” suspicions around Grizzard. If he can keep the train chugging from last season, the Bucs should have a top-10 offense again.

Yeah, Joe knows some are skeptical of Grizzard being a head coach candidate come January. Joe doesn’t understand why.

Dave Canales was a first-year coordinator and he got the Stinking Panthers gig. Joe will admit Canales got the job in Carolina as much for his corporate demeanor and always-sunny disposition as much as for his coaching prowess. His Bucs offense certainly didn’t break records.

Then there was Liam Coen, who was nothing less than tremendous in his one year with the Bucs, his first as an NFL playcaller. He, too, got a head coaching gig.

If Grizzard can improve the Bucs offense — which he stated is possible — and the Bucs make any kind of a postseason run, Joe could easily see Grizzard as a hot head coaching candidate.

NFL owners like offense. And offenses keep teams relevant. And relevancy is what drives revenue. That gets owners’ attention.
