Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has reached an agreement to sign for Fenerbahce, according to reports in Turkish media. It has been claimed that the French shot-stopper has been pinpointed as the ideal replacement for Croatian international Dominik Livakovic.
The 25-year-old is reportedly expected to travel to Istanbul this weekend with his future at Elland Road seemingly coming to an end. Despite winning promotion back to the Premier League from the Championship last season, Meslier come under immense scrutiny after a series of high-profile blunders that proved costly during key matches throughout the campaign.
A spate of mistakes throughout the season meant that he was dropped for the run-in as 34-year-old Karl Darlow deputised in his place for the final seven matches.
Now, reports in Turkey suggest that Leeds will recoup a fee in order to reinvest into the squad, and possibly the goalkeeping position.
According to Ajansspor, Jose Mourinho's side have reached an agreement with Meslier. He is entering the final year of his contract in West Yorkshire and will travel to the Turkish capital this weekend.
After the Frenchman was dropped during the penultimate month of the season, Daniel Farke was forced to make a crucial decision regarding his number one.
"The goalkeeper position is not one you change week-to-week like outfield players," he told Sky Sports in April.
"Illan had the perfect February with many wins and many clean sheets, but in the last few weeks, there have been a few incidents where we thought he could have done better.
"Obviously he was involved in both [Swansea] goals in the last game, and it was a shame because after the penalty save he was on his way to being man of the match," he added.
"So it was clear we had to make a decision.
"And we had to make it early in the week, because in that position the players need clarity, and Karl [Darlow] needs the time to prepare.
"We had a pretty open, honest conversation. Of course he's disappointed he won't start.
"But he took it very professionally and he was still more disappointed about the Swansea game.
"But it's still professional football, and you have to deliver.
"You have to perform and he knows that. He will have one or two days to suffer, but then he has to be ready for Saturday.
"Karl hasn't played too many league games in recent years, but I see him every day in training and I see the quality he delivers. He's a top professional and a very experienced goalkeeper.
"With a goalkeeper of Illan's class, who already has as many games as he's played at his age, you are a bit more careful about dropping him, because you want to give him confidence.
"He has been at the club since well before I arrived and I know what he's done for this club. He played an important role in securing promotion, and had some fantastic seasons in the Premier League."
Leeds have been linked with alternative shot-stoppers since their promotion back to the English top-flight was secured.
Among those mooted is Southampton and former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who faces a decision regarding his future at St Mary's following their relegation to the Championship with Thomas Tuchel set to pick his squad for the World Cup next summer.
