Man United are pushing hard to sign Bryan Mbeumo and are continuing talks with Brentford “behind closed doors” after submitting a new bid, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that Ruben Amorim’s side are confident a deal will be agreed.

United have submitted a new offer of £60million including add-ons that has been rejected, but the club have not been deterred and are pressing forward in talks.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 13 June that Tottenham could hijack United’s move for Mbeumo thanks to his relationship with Thomas Frank.

Concerns had emerged that Spurs’ interest would throw a spanner in the works, but the 25-year-old has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.

Football Insider revealed on 6 June that Man United will reach an agreement with Brentford, who are demanding £60million for his signature.

Man United pushing to agree Bryan Mbeumo deal ahead of Spurs

Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Man United are closing in on Mbeumo and are advancing towards an agreement over his transfer fee.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham, insisted that the Red Devils are “really pushing” to agree a deal in the coming days and weeks.

“*There’s been plenty of speculation about Mbeumo,*” he told Football Insider.

“I understand that, you have to expect people are going to speculate because there’s not a lot of concrete news coming out about the situation.

“I think in the coming days and weeks, something will happen and it’ll trigger a lot of other moves.

“Tottenham have come into the picture for Mbeumo since they appointed Frank as their manager.

“They obviously have a close relationship so it comes as no surprise that they’re interested.

“But United have been speaking to him behind closed doors and they’re really pushing to reach an agreement with Brentford because he’s the one they want.

“From what I’m lead to believe, he wants to join Man United, so that should make things easier.

“I think there is confidence they can agree a deal, obviously it will depend on the price tag but I wouldn’t be overly concerned just because things have gone quiet.

“They’re still working hard to get it done.”

Alejandro Garnacho update emerges amid Tottenham interest

With Mbeumo’s arrival seemingly on the horizon, United are preparing to entertain offers for Alejandro Garnacho, who will be allowed to leave this summer.

Brown told Football Insider on 23 June that Tottenham are preparing a move for Garnacho in a deal which would be seen as a positive one for all parties.

However, United are set to hold out and accept an offer from the highest bidder, with his future unlikely to be resolved soon amid growing interest.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that Man United want to kickstart a bidding war, with the price tag starting at £50million amid interest from Spurs and Chelsea among others.
