Thank you Seattle... now on to Atlanta

Following their 2-0 victory over Seattle Sounders FC on Monday 23rd June at Lumen Field on the third and final Matchday of the group stage, Paris Saint-Germain now head to Atlanta to face Inter Miami CF in the last 16.

Having booked their place in the knockout phase of the competition in front of more than 50,000 spectators at the Sounders stadium, including 80 youngsters from the Paris Saint-Germain Academy Vancouver and their parents, and around 20 members of the Seattle Supporters Club, Luis Enrique and his players returned to their hotel in the centre of the Rainy City having accomplished their mission.

"I’m pleased, of course. It's not easy to play this type of match, but I think we were better than them and deserved to win this game" the Rouge et Bleu coach explained to PSG TV. A sentiment shared by his goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma: "We knew Seattle would play with a lot of intensity. They have quality players, so it wasn’t an easy match, just like against Botafogo. But today’s victory is important, to finish top of the group and advance to the Round of 16, because our goal is always to qualify all the way to the final."

So now it's on to the last 16. "We plan to go as far as possible and I believe the players are ready. The real competition starts now, and it will be very tough. After each match, we have to see if we qualify or not. We’re motivated!” added the Spaniard. "Every stadium we’ve played in so far in the United States has been fantastic. It’s a pleasure to play here. I hope we keep winning more matches and that we’ll reach the final together, all united. It’s very important for us and the club to go all the way.” said the Italian.

It was during the flight that the Rouge et Bleu learned of their future opponents, Inter Miami, the American team led by two former Parisians, owner David Beckham (14 official matches in 2013) and striker Lionel Messi (75 official matches and 32 goals between 2021 and 2023), which will take place this Sunday 29th June at 6pm (in France, 12pm in Georgia) at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. After a 4-hour flight, the squad arrived at their new base camp in Atlanta for a well-deserved rest before resuming work on Tuesday.
