From Portugal: Manchester United ‘very interested’ in Diogo Costa and he wants transfer

Tuesday’s edition of [A Bola](http://abola.pt) has a big article on Diogo Costa’s future, with the Portuguese newspaper reporting the goalkeeper wants to leave FC Porto.

The 25-year-old _‘believes it is time to embrace a new challenge’_ and thinks he’s achieved all he can with Porto. A Bola go to lengths to explain how much the club means to Diogo Costa, but he feels it’s time to play in a bigger league and also take a financial step up.

Manchester United and Manchester City are described as being ‘very interested’ in the Portugal international. However, it’s worth noting that at the beginning of June, Pep Guardiola said his [two main goalkeepers will be staying](https://sportwitness.co.uk/pep-guardiola-rules-out-2-exits-and-1-arrival-hypes-cl-qualification-for-manchester-city/) and unless he was being economical with the truth that would rule out this transfer.

The bigger need is at Manchester United who struggled with Andre Onana last season and have been linked with a series of replacements for the stopper.

Ruben Amorim’s side may find a major problem with Diogo Costa’s price, though. A Bola report the Porto star has a €75m release clause but could leave for €60m.

Even if Porto president Andre Villas Boas were to grant that discount, it still looks too much for Manchester United this summer. The Red Devils have other areas of need and €60m on a goalkeeper may be a step too far.
