West Ham have joined the likes of Leeds United and Everton in the race to sign Liverpool star Joe Gomez, according to the club’s former scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Blackburn and remains very well-connected at his former clubs, exclusively told Football Insider that the Hammers are keeping a close eye on the 28-year-old’s situation.

Should they be given an indication that the England international, who is not a first choice, will be allowed to leave Anfield, Graham Potter’s side are preparing to make an offer.

However, Football Insider revealed on 23 June that Gomez is happy at Liverpool and has a role to play under Arne Slot after Jarell Quansah agreed to join Bayer Leverkusen.

West Ham remain interested in Gomez, though, and there is a belief he could be made available if the Reds sign another centre-back this summer.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool are closing in on signing Marc Guehi and are prepared to offer him a role in the starting XI.

West Ham plot Joe Gomez deal as transfer priority revealed

Brown told Football Insider in April that West Ham will prioritise signing a centre-back this summer amid concerns about their defensive frailty under Potter.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Gomez is one of the names on their radar ahead of the transfer window.

“West Ham are interested in signing Joe Gomez,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s going to be a backup player again at Liverpool, but they’re keeping a close eye on things in case they decide they want to cash in.

“It will all depend on what they want to do because he’s still a part of their squad.

“If Liverpool sign another centre-back as it looks like they might do, he’ll be pushed even further down the pecking order.

“West Ham aren’t the only interested club, he’s been linked to Everton and Leeds as well.

“If Liverpool decide to let him go, there will be a lot of clubs looking to bring him in.

“My sources tell me that Potter wants to strengthen at the back, and he sees Gomez as a good option.

“They’re keeping a close eye on his situation and if he is allowed to leave, I expect they’ll be ready to make a move.”

Hamza Igamane update emerges at the London Stadium

Alongside their ambitions of strengthening at the back, West Ham are also aiming to sign a new striker with Rangers’ Hamza Igamane on their radar.

Brown told Football Insider on 20 June that West Ham scouts have been watching Igamane and they are now deciding whether to make an offer for his signature.

However, there are concerns about whether he is ready to make the step up to Premier League football as Potter’s first-choice centre-forward.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider on 21 June that Rangers are hell-bent on keeping Igamane and are prepared to block moves to the Premier League this summer.
