Former Porter-Gaud star picks up $33.3M option with Wizards

Former Porter-Gaud star Khris Middleton, who went from a second-round pick by the Detroit Pistons to the G-League to NBA champion with the Milwaukee Bucks, reportedly picked up his $33.3 million player option for next season with the Washington Wizards.

Heading into what will be his 14th NBA season, Middleton is coming off the lowest scoring average of his career since his rookie season. Limited to just 37 games between Milwaukee and Washington, where he was traded during the season, the Charleston native averaged 11.9 points per game in just 22.8 minutes while battling injuries.

Middleton played at Texas A&M for three seasons after Porter-Gaud and was selected No. 39 overall in the second round by the Pistons in the 2012 NBA draft. Middleton, who was sent to the G-League for a short stint as a rookie, was traded in the offseason to the Bucks, where he became a three-time All-Star. He teamed with Giannis Antetokounmpo to lead the Bucks to the 2021 NBA championship — their first in 50 years — and averaged over 20 points per game four seasons.

In February, he was traded to the Wizards as part of a four-team deal.

In 13 seasons, he has averaged 19.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 46 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from 3-point range and 87.8 percent from the free-throw line.
