'Helped me a lot': Pereira names the Wolves player who's been 'especially' handy to him, he…

Vitor Pereira is looking to kick on at Wolves now, having done a sterling job at Molineux so far.

The Portuguese has been at the club for six months, after replacing Gary O’Neil midway through the 2024/25 season.

Wolves were in a world of trouble in December.

Wolves were handed a very tough start in terms of the fixtures, and O’Neil was unable to get the results he needed to stay in the job.

At the time of his departure, emotions were running high, with several players having let their emotions get the better of them.

We saw outbursts from the likes of Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Jose Sa and Mario Lemina, and it was clear that it was not a very happy camp behind the scenes.

But Vitor Pereira moved to change the feeling, and he recently mentioned one player who really helped him to achieve serenity.

Lemina’s antics after the defeat to West Ham United, that saw him push his own teammates, were significant.

Because O’Neil then took the captaincy off him, and Nelson Semedo became the new skipper at Molineux.

Lemina would then be sold by Wolves to Galatasaray at the end of the January transfer window.

Semedo is widely regarded to have done a really good job since taking the armband, going about his business in a professional and mature manner.

And Pereira is clearly grateful for his contributions, as he told Marca: “We started spending more time together to reconnect emotionally.

“The captains, especially Nelson Semedo, helped me a lot. We regained our concentrations, went back to lunch together and scheduled several extra activities outside of football. Habits that had been lost.”

Semedo’s leadership was recently on show at the canteen at Compton, as he greeted every person who was there as a guest.

Semedo would be a major loss as Wolves await contract decision

Wolves fans are still waiting to learn what Semedo will do regarding his future.

At the moment, Semedo has a four-year contract offer on the table from Wolves, which apparently includes a pay rise.

It is a very generous offer, which Wanderers really hope he accepts.

But he still hasn’t signed on the dotted line, and some are starting to feel that he will be moving on.

And if that does happen then Wolves will be stung.

Ultimately, Semedo has been a consistent performer on the pitch for Wolves over the last couple of seasons and we have also seen his leadership credentials come to the fore in 2025.

To lose a player like this can only be a negative, and Wolves’ new-look recruitment division will have a tough task replacing him.
