Manchester United have been hit by a £7million blow after a sponsorship deal has been terminated at Old Trafford.
The Premier League side agreed a multi-year partnership with Marriott International – the world’s largest hotel company – in 2019.
SportBusiness reported on 12 June the American firm has now decided not to extend the sponsorship deal after it expired at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
Marriott International announced a radical cost-saving programme last November, with the company targeting between $80-90million (£59-66million) in annual cost savings.
However, it recently agreed a new deal with the FA and also extended its sponsorship deal with the Mercedes F1 team.
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider a new hotel sponsor is unlikely to pay as much as Marriott because they are a “massive” company.

Man United to agree new sponsor deal
Borson revealed United could miss out on around £7.4million after Marriott decided not to extend its sponsorship deal.
He told Football Insider: “In their own accounts, they give a long list of the sponsors and then say aside from the kit sponsor and the training sponsor, it’s £120million per annum in the last financial year to 30 June.
“There are something like 20 global partnerships in the various categories. It’s all laid out and Marriott are obviously one of them. Then there are two or three regional partners.
“Now, I would think in that league table of sponsors, Marriott are somewhere near the top. If they were somewhere near the top and, therefore, above the average, you would think that they’re paying something like $10million (£7.4million).
“I was guided by somebody that it was not as much as that and that it was closer to say $6million (£4.4million), but I just wonder how it can be if their total from those sponsors was £120million, which we know from the accounts.
“So, I would say it’s likely to be close to $10million. Now, the good news for United is I think for something like a hotel partnership, they’ll find somebody.
“So, one of the other groups will take that partnership. Whether they’ll pay as much as Marriott, probably not.
“Marriott obviously is massive and the biggest, and so maybe they won’t pay as much as Marriott.
“But they’ll pay something, so they will maybe lose $3million (£2.2million) a year, something like that.”

Man United’s updated stance on Hugo Ekitike bid revealed
In terms of matters on the pitch, Football Insider revealed on 17 June United are unlikely to pursue a summer deal for Hugo Ekitike despite his form for Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Bundesliga club want close to £85million for the France Under-21 international, and Ruben Amorim’s side cannot afford a deal at that price.
Frankfurt are not in a position where they must sell Ekitike this summer and are able to hold out for that figure.
The 23-year-old registered 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances in the 2024-25 season.
