Ex-Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has reportedly attracted transfer interest from Nottingham Forest and Marseille.
The midfielder, who was linked with a return to recently promoted Sunderland earlier this summer, left Liverpool in 2023 to link up with Steven Gerrard for an ill-fated spell at Al-Ettifaq, before moving to Ajax in January 2024.
According to the Daily Mail, a clause in his contract with the Dutch giants could allow Henderson to leave for free before mid-July. The midfielder has made 57 appearances for Ajax in a year and and half and was appointed captain within a month of joining the club.
As per the report in the Mail, Henderson has “not fully decided whether it is best to leave or stay put at Ajax” but there is widespread interest in the 35-year-old.
He was linked with a move to Rangers when Gerrard was reportedly in line to return to the Glasgow club as manager, but that option fell through.
Henderson, who remains part of Thomas Tuchel’s England despite the fact he will turn 36 at next summer’s World Cup, endured a frustrating end to the 2024/25 campaign as a run of four games without a win allowed PSV Eindhoven to win the Eredivisie title on the final day of the season.

Henderson led Liverpool to the 20219/20 Premier League title.
During a glittering career at Anfield, Henderson lifted every major honor available to him, including a first league title in 30 years, and the 2019 Champions League.
He made nearly 500 appearances for the Reds but departed when Jurgen Klopp failed to make guarantees over his playing time. The decision to move to Saudi Arabia two years ago was heavily criticised by the LGBTQ+ community.
Since moving to Ajax, he has become a regular in the team, but was linked with a move to Monaco in January. That resulted in a public disagreement with a journalist during a press conference, in which Henderson repeatedly denied claims he wanted to leave the club.
The ex-Sunderland youth graduate was temporarily relieved of the captain’s armband but regained it from the middle of March.
Ajax have been a prominent club in Liverpool transfer news this summer with John Hetinga and Vitezslav Jaros making the move to Amsterdam from the Reds in recent weeks.
