Mason Mount 'not planning' on leaving Man Utd after Chelsea transfer

Former Chelsea star Mason Mount wants to remain at Manchester United, according Fabrizio Romano. The 26-year-old's time at Old Trafford has been plagued by injury since making the switch from Stamford Bridge.

The England international was reduced to just 16 Premier League appearances last season with two hamstring injuries keeping out between August and March. His debut campaign in the North West was equally frustrating on the injury front, missing 27 games across all competitions during his spell under Erik ten Hag in that first season.

With finances reportedly tight at Old Trafford, it was suggested that United may be forced to cut their losses on Mount and look to offload him, in order to reinvest the money around the squad for their respective transfer targets.

Reports suggested that Aston Villa were interested in the midfielder, who has three years remaining on his contract, with Unai Emery said to be eyeing a move for the 36-time Three Lions international which would offer an escape for Mount.

However, Romano has claimed that the United playmaker has no desire to leave the Red Devils and his focus is firmly on returning to pre-season fit in order to help Ruben Amorim's side.

He tweeted: "Mason Mount, not planning to leave Man United despite reports in recent hours.

"He’s focusing on staying fit, do pre-season work at his best and stay to work full season with Rúben Amorim."

The claim comes as no surprise after Mount's glowing reflection of the opening six months under the Portuguese.

He said: “He's been brilliant. "I’d seen the way he likes to play and the formations he’d played in Portugal.

"It’s something that I've been used to and I’ve played in the past, so I know the kind of movement he likes. "It's very similar. So I knew I could be helping the lads around me understand the formation.

"It’s very difficult when you change from one formation to another. It can be quite a big difference, so, at the beginning, it takes some time to get used to and to click. But once you do find that moment that it does, I think it can be very special.

“I think we’re so close to that. There’s still small details here and there. "The small details are so important when you’re playing at this level and this type of formation."

United will return for pre-season training at the beginning of July before flying out to Chicago for their three-game pre-season tour in the United States.

A reunion with [Chelsea](https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/) will not be too far away either with the Premier League fixtures for the new campaign handing Amorim a tough opening months, where they face Arsenal, Manchester City and the Blues before the end of September.

United beat Liverpool to the signature of Mount in 2023 in a deal worth an initial £55 million, with the possibility to rise to £60m based on performance bonuses.

Although, it remains to be seen whether a sell-on clause or similar was inserted as part of the deal that ended his 18-year association with the Blues.

At the time, Mount addressed the supporters in a message on social media, he wrote: "I feel you deserve more than a written statement so I wanted to tell you directly how grateful I have been for all of your support over the last 18 years.

"I know some of you won't be happy with my decision, but it's what's right for me at this moment in my career."
