Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the new favourites for Aston Villa linked playmaker and Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, according to reports. Spurs, who have appointed Thomas Frank - who agreed to leave Brentford - as their new boss after parting with Ange Postecoglou, are preparing for Champions League football next season.

They beat Manchester United in the final at the end of last season to become the sixth English side to confirm a place in the newly formatted Champions League stages, which Villa partook in last season but have missed out on ahead of the new campaign.

As a consequence, Spurs plan to add to their squad and hand Frank a statement signing early into the window - but after the 30th June date in order to structure their payments to Palace in the new season and aid their own Profitability and Sustainability cause. Palace, of course, have European football themselves next year.

Despite that, though, Spurs are confident that England international Eze favours a move across London in order to try his hand at European football's top table next term and that they are

"I was really worried from a club point of view of losing Michael [Olise] and Ebbs in the same window and we didn't have in Ebbs the interest that I thought we would have," Palace chairman Steve Parish told Sky Sports News last summer, when reflecting on the club's transfer dealings and retention of Eze, who they signed from QPR in 2020.

"I was astounded. Genuinely astounded. I mean, the guy's just an outstanding footballer, an outstanding person. He's a gift to any football club. I don't think any Crystal Palace supporter would mind the fact that Ebbs would want to play at the highest level. He's playing regularly for England.

"It was great for the club we didn't lose him, but we understand that, in time, maybe somebody will come in. I've been his biggest fan. Ebbs is still here and it's great for the football club, but I was surprised that that's what happened."
