Chelsea won’t join the fight for Flamengo full-back Wesley, as they believe they are well covered at right-back at this moment in time.
That’s [according to journalist Jorge Nicola](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gnOg5tmAqk), who says reports of Chelsea making moves for the 21-year-old are wide of the mark.
Wesley is currently one of the rising stars of Brazilian football. He has plenty of suitors in Europe, including Brighton, who have reportedly already made a €20m bid for him.
Chelsea were also drawn into the mix, particularly after the player impressed against the Blues in Flamengo’s 3-1 win over Enzo Maresca’s side at the Club World Cup.
Wesley made a mistake in that game, leading to Pedro Neto’s opening goal in the 13th minute, but left a generally positive impression. Reports after the game then suggested he was on Chelsea’s shortlist as they continue scooping up talent from around the world.
Nicola, though, wants to pour cold water all over that idea, insisting that Chelsea have no interest in getting involved in the potential battle for Wesley as they believe that they are well covered at right back with Reece James, Malo Gusto and Josh Acheampong already in it.
_“Just to clarify something, many people said that after the match against Chelsea the English club would also join the fight to sign Wesley. That’s not true,”_ he said.
_“Wesley is well-regarded at Chelsea; he played well despite the goal. Despite this mistake, the evaluation was positive._
_“But Chelsea is not thinking about signing him because they already have at least two players with a great future for the position.”_
