Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak’s summer move to Liverpool is still a possibility, talkSPORT journalist Darren Lewis has suggested.
The Sweden international has reportedly not closed the door on a move to Anfield in the coming months, despite the Magpies’ reluctance to part with him ahead of their return to the Champions League.
Lewis claims Isak has never publicly said he would not entertain a new challenge outside St James’ Park, which suggests he could be willing to switch clubs this summer if Liverpool manage to meet Newcastle’s demands.
Isak is believed to be valued in excess of £100m by his club, a fee that could make him Liverpool’s record signing, potentially surpassing the £116m spent on Florian Wirtz last week.

‘We could see something’

Lewis, speaking on talkSPORT, said Isak still has the door open for a summer move to Liverpool, despite Newcastle’s reluctance to sell:
“The key thing for me, with Isak you have to listen to what footballers are saying and at no point has he said ‘I don’t want to go anywhere else.'”
“He has indeed [kept his own powder dry], and that to me is why that door is still open, and I think if Liverpool were to make that move even at the numbers they are talking about, I think we could see something.”
Liverpool are believed to be keen on signing a new number nine this summer, as Darwin Nunez is expected to make way for a new striker in the coming weeks.
The Uruguayan forward is reportedly a priority target for Serie A champions Napoli and continues to attract interest from the Saudi Pro League.
Liverpool have already spent just under £150m this summer on Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, and are expected to splash out another £40m on Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez.
The Hungary international is now in advanced talks to join, while Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi has also emerged as a target in recent days.
