Johnny Phillips makes intriguing claim about Vitor Pereira's relationship with Matt Hobbs at…

Wolves are heading in a different direction this summer, after the club instigated a restructure that saw Matt Hobbs leave the football club.

Hobbs left Wolves as the club dissolved his sporting director role, which he had held since just before the 2023 January transfer window.

Wolves recently appointed Domenico Teti, who has come in as the club’s new director of professional football.

Matt Jackson and Phil Hayward have been handed slightly different roles, with Wolves hoping that the restructure will put them back on the pathway to challenging for European football.

Fans gave a mixed reaction to Hobbs leaving.

While he did help Wolves to bring some good players to the club, he potentially had blind faith in Gary O’Neil.

Today, some interesting information has come out regarding Matt Hobbs, which perhaps indicates his exit was always on the cards.

It is clear now that Pereira will have a degree of control over transfers this summer.

He’ll work closely with Teti, and also Jorge Mendes and his right-hand man Valdir Cardoso to get the right players in.

Teti is someone Pereira has worked with before at Al-Shabab.

And his appointment was seemingly inevitable, because Sky journalist Johnny Phillips reports via his Substack that Pereira did not have a close relationship with Matt Hobbs.

He writes: “Pereira did not form a particularly close relationship with Hobbs and it is revealing that the head coach has been allowed to bring in his own man – Domenico Teti – in a new director of professional football role.”

Only one transfer window passed while Hobbs and Pereira worked together, and the January 2025 signings of Emmanuel Agbadou and Marshall Munetsi have proven to be key for Wolves.

But despite Hobbs’ involvement in those deals, Wolves and Pereira seemingly wanted to go in a different direction this summer.

Hobbs apparently wanted to sign David Brooks from Bournemouth, but the winger is no longer on the agenda following his exit.

What Domenico Teti will bring to Wolves

Wolves fans are now keen to see what Teti can do at Wolves, in the knowledge that he knows and has worked with Pereira.

In theory, the pair should be on the same wavelength, and know how the other operates.

Phillips reports that Teti will ‘offer a new layer of communication between the ownership and coaching staff’.

He is said to be fluent in several languages – in Wolves’ recent YouTube video documenting Fer Lopez’s first day at Compton, Teti could be heard conversing with the new signing in Spanish.

It’s stated that ‘the Italian has the ability to develop relationships with the entire playing staff, which is primarily Portuguese-speaking’.
