Illan Meslier transfer latest - Leeds United truth after agreement 'reached' for move

Illan Meslier's future at Leeds United remains uncertain.

The goalkeeper could well leave Elland Road this summer having fallen out of favour toward the end of United's promotion-winning season in the campaign just gone.

Karl Darlow was preferred for the final seven games of 2024/25 with the Whites going on to lift the Championship title after beating Plymouth Argyle on the final day of the season.

Meslier has a year left on his contract and could leave United if his game-time is not guaranteed.

He is, though, an established campaigner for Leeds having joined in 2019 from French side Lorient, initially on loan before making the move permanent.

Meslier has totted up almost 200 League appearances for Leeds - but he may have made his final outing for the club.

Here's the latest on Meslier...

Fenerbahce 'agreement'

Reports in Turkey have emerged claiming that Fenerbahce, managed by Jose Mourinho, have reached an agreement to sign Meslier.

It is claimed by Ajansspor that Mourinho's side 'reached an agreement on every issue' with Meslier over a move.

They claimed that the 25 year-old is due in Istanbul this weekend to seal the deal.

What we know

LeedsLive's Whites correspondent Isaac Johnson reported subsequently that Leeds are yet to receive any bids for Meslier and that no agreement over a deal has been reached.

"Meslier is not up for sale by the club but there is an acceptance that he could leave United if he wishes to seek assured game time elsewhere," he writes.

"A new goalkeeper is high on the transfer agenda for the club’s recruitment team and is a topic that is regularly discussed at length by transfer chiefs."

Who could replace him?

Nick Pope has been heavily linked with a move to Leeds amid speculation over a change in goal, while The Times reported over the weekend that Farke's men are 'considering' a move for Southampton's Aaron Ramsdale.

Both moves may well be fairly simple ones to complete, with Pope now set to be stripped of the number one jersey at Newcastle United by James Trafford when his move from Burnley is complete while Ramsdale has just been relegated from Southampton.
