Malick Fofana has been a hot topic over the last few weeks with multiple Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, linked with an interest in the Belgian.
The attacker had a breakout season for Olympique Lyon as he became one of their most important players across the campaign.
These performances have generated plenty of interest in him from across the globe, but at the moment, it seems to be Liverpool and Chelsea who are first in line.
The Anfield outfit’s attack is likely to change a fair amount over the next couple of months, with the likes of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez touted to be on their way out.

With this in mind, Arne Slot will have to scour the market to try and find suitable replacements that won’t cost an arm and a leg, especially after their £116million transfer of Florian Wirtz.
Arne Slot would want Malick Fofana to be a backup if Luis Diaz stays at Liverpool
As mentioned, seeing as though Diaz only has two years left on his current deal, it’s not a surprise to see the Colombia international getting linked with a move away.
This will be the last summer transfer window where Liverpool will be able to get a decent amount of money for their player.
However, Slot sees the former Porto man in his plans for the 2024-25 campaign, which means that Liverpool are sticking by their price of around £50million.

But, since he’s 28 years old, it feels unlikely that anyone would pay that much for him.
So, if Diaz does end up staying, Slot would still want to bring Fofana in as his ‘backup.’
That is, according to a report from Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The journalist reported that while there isn’t a ‘real discussion’ about the Belgian’s contract demands, due to the number of wingers being snapped up already, the Reds could end up being forced to make the ‘first offer.’

Malick Fofana would be a smart signing for Liverpool
Fofana may have only had one prolific season in Ligue 1, but as long as the Reds can get him for the right price, it feels like a move worth making.
Throughout the 2024-25 campaign, the Lyon ace contributed to 17 goals across all competitions.
In addition to his prolific form, the Belgian is still just 20 years old and still has plenty of room to grow and develop into a star.
A lot of Liverpool’s wingers are edging towards their primes, but with Fofana’s addition, their left wing would be sorted for years to come.
