We're 67 days away from the start of the 2025 Football season! Washington will host Colorado State on August 30 and to count down the days to kickoff we've decided to take a look at the players that have worn the jerseys of each day in question.
One of the best Huskies to ever wear the number 67 was guard Tony Coats. Coming out of one of the top football programs in the state at the time (South Kitsap), Coats was one of the most sought-after recruits in the country during the 1994 recruiting cycle. He was named All-State on both sides of the ball and, in the 36 years that they've named a Gatorade State Player of the Year, he's one of just six linemen to receive that honor.
Coats eventually signed with Washington and became a three-year starter at left tackle where he used his 6'7", 300 pound frame and outstanding feet and athleticism to help lead the way to Corey Dillon's big season in 1996.
Following the completion of his eligibility with the Dawgs, Coats was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round and played for two years before leaving the league. He's now a respected chiropractor in the state of Oregon.
Hailing from Mercer Island, Mark Jerue wasn't very big for a defensive lineman, weighing in at just 225 pounds, but he was active and athletic and he had a nose for the ball. The coaches eventually moved him to middle linebacker and he finished his four seasons at Washington with 354 tackles and was a key part of Washington's defense that helped lead the way to a 10-2 record which included a 28-0 win over Iowa in the 1982 Rose Bowl.
He was eventually drafted in the fifth round of the 1982 NFL Draft by the New York Jets and spent eight seasons in the league, the final seven with the Los Angeles Rams.
Nick Newton was a mountain of a man, checking in at 6'4" and 315 pounds. With his quick feet and nasty demeanor, he was a perfect fit at guard where he started 21 games as a freshman and sophomore and then was moved out to tackle where he started 23 of the 25 games during those seasons.
He was one of the rare four-year lettermen to come out of the Husky football program since the turn of the century.
