Newcastle United given forceful rejection after enquiry – Magpies tested waters

Newcastle United have been given a ‘forceful’ rejection by Atalanta, after making attempts to sign defender Giorgio Scalvini.

That’s [according to Tutto Atalanta](https://www.tuttoatalanta.com/primo-piano/ta-scalvini-non-si-tocca-la-dea-pronta-a-toglierlo-dal-mercato-e-su-scamacca-119402), who say the Italian side have ‘forcefully reiterated’ that they have no intention of selling the 21-year-old this summer.

They report that Newcastle had ‘tested the waters’ in recent days for the centre-back, offering significant figures to get a deal done this summer.

Atalanta weren’t interested, though, demanding a figure between €40-50m to sell their defender. That is a figure which far exceeds his current market value.

They consider the defender as an asset on which to build their future and have intention of selling him at this moment in time. Especially if they aren’t going to get a figure which would be above his market value.

Whether Newcastle are willing to offer such an amount isn’t mentioned but it seems whatever they did offer was below the demands Atalanta put on the table when the Magpies recently came calling.

Their forceful response was certainly done to scare Newcastle United off and make them look elsewhere for the new defender they may want this summer.
