Brenden Aaronson earned mixed reviews at Leeds United last season.
The American international did contribute as Leeds gained promotion to the Premier League as champions, returning from his loan spell at Union Berlin.
However, his overall contributions across the campaign were lacking, with supporters feeling as though he should have done more at Elland Road.
Now, Daniel Farke is looking for replacements.

Aaronson makes his case for Leeds chance
Naturally, Farke is eager to strengthen his Leeds squad as they head to the Premier League, in the hope of retaining a position in the top flight.
The Whites have been linked with the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Emi Buendia in the summer transfer window, signings who would no doubt be an upgrade on the current options.
MORE LEEDS STORIES
However, with impressive performances being delivered in the Gold Cup for the United States national side, Aaronson’s confidence is building.
Speaking to GOAL (23 June), he admitted he is ready to prove himself in the top flight again, saying: “After this tournament, it’s going back to Leeds and having a fantastic season in the Premier League.
“It’s how the club thinks: what are we going to do next? Who are we gonna add?
“They always have to make decisions regarding the Prem and, once you win that trophy, it goes directly to how we’re going to work to stay in the Premier League… I want to have a great season. I want to prove to everyone that I can do it in the Premier League, too.
“I’ve proven that I can score goals. I’ve proven that I can create with the best teams in the league and help a team get promoted. For me, I’m just going to go out there and continue to get better and better. I know it sounds boring, but for me, it’s true.
“I’m proud of how this season went, but I want to grow. I think I can get better. I’m really happy with this season, but I think I can continue to prove people wrong.”

Farke needs reinforcements
Aaronson may feel as though he is ready to prove himself for Leeds in the Premier League, but with so much riding on survival, Farke can’t afford to have any players he doesn’t trust in the squad.
Ultimately, the 24-year-old’s contributions in the Championship were not at the level they should have been, and his previous Premier League form doesn’t offer the most promise either.
Last time out in the top flight, Aaronson offered just four goal contributions and the Whites certainly need more than that if they are going to reach the levels they are aiming for next term.
Season League Appearances Goals Assists
2024/25 Championship 46 9 2
2022/23 Premier League 36 1 3
Aaronson hasn’t done enough to convince Farke.
The American is not a bad option to have on the bench, but his efforts to prove himself are likely going to have to come as a substitute and whether he will be keen on that offer is yet to be seen.
Farke cannot afford to be sentimental and he has to make sure he prioritises what his squad needs to be able to break the curse of the newly promoted sides coming straight back down.
