Liverpool may get welcome boost from Saudi Arabia as transfer dominos start to fall

Liverpool might be able to recoup some of the money splashed out on Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, courtesy of Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. Theo Hernandez is reportedly on the brink of a move to the Pro League runners-up from AC Milan.

Hernandez's potential transfer to the Middle East could indirectly facilitate Liverpool's sale of Andy Robertson to Atletico Madrid. The Reds' left-back is poised to conclude his successful seven-year stint at Anfield with a likely move to the Spanish capital.

Atletico is rumored to be mulling over a £5 million ($6.8 million) deal for the Scotland international, but it had also shown interest in Hernandez. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the 27-year-old is nearing a move to Al-Hilal. This could expedite Atletico's pursuit of Robertson, providing Liverpool with a financial windfall.

Atletico had also been eyeing Aston Villa full-back Lucas Digne. However, the La Liga side are said to have baulked at the price tag for a player with only a year left on his contract.

Robertson was expected to slide down the pecking order at Anfield next season. The imminent arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth would have seen the Scot's playing time curtailed.

Speaking recently on his future, Robertson said: "I back myself, I've got confidence in my own ability and that drives me forward. I've had eight fantastic years at Liverpool in terms of winning trophies, being a mainstay in the team, which I'm incredibly proud of.

"I'm not getting any younger, I can't change my age, but I still believe I've got a lot to give and that's what I focus on. I focus on myself - you can't focus on other people or who you're competing with."

Liverpool is eager to trim their squad after a hefty summer spending spree that has further bolstered Arne Slot's Premier League title-winning team. The sales of Robertson and Jarell Quansah, who is reportedly heading to Bayer Leverkusen, will net the Reds a substantial fee.

Quansah, Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez are all rumored to be on their way out. The Times reports that Ibrahima Konate, who is believed to be attracting interest from Real Madrid, has put talks over a new contract on hold.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's spending spree shows no signs of slowing down. Kerkez is poised to become their third senior signing of the window, following Wirtz and Frimpong.

A center-back is likely to be next on the agenda, with Marc Guehi thought to be high on the club's wish list.

A new striker is also a possibility. Liverpool has been tentatively linked with Alexander Isak and Julian Alvarez, but securing either deal ahead of the 2025-26 season could prove challenging.
