Secret meetings? Denials? Chelsea? What is going on with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund’s…

The odd transfer situation surrounding Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens is creating a stir, so let’s see where things stand.

Per Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), BVB expects Gittens to eventually end up at Chelsea FC:

Borussia Dortmund expect Jamie Gittens to move to Chelsea, despite turning down a £42m bid this month, with talks between the two clubs ongoing and the expectation of a face-to-face meeting in the United States at the Club World Cup.

Ruhr Nachrichten (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) reported that Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl and Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke even had a meeting to discuss a possible transfer:

Max Eberl and Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke held a meeting in Germany over Jamie Gittens. BVB want at least €65m for the Englishman - but the player wants to join Chelsea. The English club’s latest offer was worth €35m fixed plus €20m in add-ons. Bayern would have to convince Gittens and his management and change their minds. Another interested party - as in Bayern - would play into Dortmund’s hands by raising the fee.

However, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg (via @iMiaSanMia), acknowledged that Bayern Munich was, indeed, back in for Gittens, but a rumored meeting was nonsense:

Bayern are back in for Jamie Gittens. Max Eberl held new talks with the management of the Englishman. Dortmund want €65m including add-ons. Eberl and Kompany like Gittens.

The reported meeting between Eberl and Watzke did not take place.

Watzke also denied a meet to Sky Germany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):

Watzke asked whether there was a meeting with Max Eberl regarding Jamie Gittens, he said: “No. This report is a complete hoax.”

As for where things stand, who knows? It would seem unlikely that Gittens would pass up a chance to move to Chelsea, but Bayern Munich — if anything — has proven that it is ready to try and do anything to convince a few select wingers to change their plans for the future already this summer.
