However, Middlesbrough have now confirmed, through their official club website, a major change — with Michael Carrick no longer at the helm, the club have appointed Rob Edwards as their new head coach on a three-year deal.
Edwards arrives with serious pedigree, having led Luton Town to the Premier League in his first season in charge, and managing the Hatters during their time in the top flight.
His earlier success came at Forest Green Rovers, where he guided the club to League One for the first time in their history, before a brief spell at Watford and his landmark promotion with Luton in 2023.

Joining Edwards are Adi Viveash, formerly of Coventry City and Chelsea’s academy, and Harry Watling, who has worked at clubs including West Ham, QPR, and Rangers.
Boro’s head of football, Kieran Scott, said: “We had an exciting pool of candidates, but Rob was the stand-out.
“His vision for the club impressed us immediately.”
Edwards himself expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity: “It’s a real privilege to be head coach of this great football club.
“This felt instantly right for me. I can’t wait to get started.”
