Portugal midfielder says he wants to play for Manchester United

Manchester United continue to be one of football’s most admired institutions, not just by elite players, but also by those rising through the ranks in Europe’s lesser-known leagues.

While Ruben Amorim focuses on reshaping his United squad before the season begins, the club’s global pull remains as strong as ever — with stars across the continent citing Old Trafford as a dream destination.

Pre-season planning is already in full swing, with United set to evaluate fringe players, youth talents, and new signings in the coming weeks.

A fresh name has entered the conversation, with a Portuguese midfielder publicly declaring his ambition to play for, or at least against, Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Vasco Moreira, a 24-year-old midfielder for Liga Portugal 2 side Felgueiras, has admitted that stepping onto the Old Trafford pitch is one of his major career goals.

In an interview with Record, Vasco Moreira said: “I’d like to face the best teams.

“But I like the Spanish championship, if you play there I would like to play against the best.

“Or Manchester United, I like to step and feel the energy of Old Trafford, it is a stage that has a certain something.”

Currently playing in Portugal’s second tier, Moreira joined Felgueiras from Braga B in 2023 and made 34 appearances last season, helping his side to a respectable ninth-place finish.

Despite only just breaking into regular senior football, he has his sights set high.

“I have some teams that I would like to belong to,” he said.

“But I think that depends on me.

“I like to think more about the championships and then work, and only then you see where you go.

“Jumping from Portugal to a big club in Europe would be difficult, but I do not put restrictions.

“At this moment I am contractually connected to Felgueiras and will stop there.

“But in football things change fast. I have that goal, I want to put myself to the test at a high level.

“I don’t know if it will be next, or in four years, I will not rest until I hit it.”

Moreira’s ambition may still be some way from reality, but his passion for reaching the Theatre of Dreams speaks volumes — and United’s global influence shows no sign of fading.
