Arsenal target Viktor Gyökeres could find himself in legal trouble at Sporting Club de Portugal this summer after it was claimed his agent suggested he may not turn up for pre-season training.
That’s according to lawyer Diogo Soares Loureiro, via Renascença, who cover comments from the legal expert today as the Gyökeres transfer saga continues to rumble on.
The Swedish striker and his agent have found themselves in direct dispute with Sporting early on this summer as the 27-year-old looks to move on from the Portuguese club after two very successful years with them.
A war of words has already broken out between the striker’s agent and the club’s president Federico Varandas, who has accused the agent of trying to bully and blackmail Sporting into a transfer.
The agent has since hit back, while Gyökeres has insisted he will make his opinion on the matter clear when he deems the time is right.
In the meantime, Arsenal have paused things, but the player is determined to move to the Gunners above other suitors.
They’re yet to match Sporting’s demands and the pot has been stirred again, with claims the player may not turn up for pre-season training in order to force through a move. That, though, could mean bad news for the Arsenal target.
“The mere fact that he is assuming this position [of threatening the club], in my view, is already grounds for possible disciplinary proceedings, because the player cannot speak publicly about this type of matter,” explained Loureiro.
“Even though he is not directly the player, he is clearly an agent with whom he probably has a contract and has a connection, that is, the agent is representing the player.
“Just because there is this arm wrestling, there would already be disciplinary matters to move forward. However, it seems to me that Sporting will wait to effectively understand whether the player will show up or not, because then the matter will take on a different gravity, and, then, I doubt that Sporting will do nothing if the player does not show up.”
