Liverpool are planning to accept offers for Ibrahima Konate this summer rather than letting him leave for free next year after contract talks stalled.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Arne Slot is willing to replace the 26-year-old in the transfer market.

While they would ideally like the France international to commit his future to the club, they would be prepared to let him go if no agreement is reached.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed that Liverpool want to resolve Konate’s future this summer with just 12 months remaining on his current deal.

Meanwhile, the Reds are pushing forward with their intentions of signing Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi who would take the Frenchman’s place in the starting XI.

Brown told Football Insider on 24 June that Arne Slot will offer Guehi a starting role as they are prepared to agree a £50million deal for the FA Cup winner.

Liverpool make Ibrahima Konate decision after contract twist

Brown told Football Insider on 22 May that Real Madrid could push to sign Konate despite having completed a deal for Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Liverpool will be open to offers if he does not put pen to paper on a new deal.

“*If Liverpool get the opportunity to sell Konate, they’d be open to it,*” he told Football Insider.

“From what I hear, there hasn’t been much progress in his contract talks and they would rather make money on him now rather than let him go for free.

“Liverpool have got a few concerns about Konate because he’s got a mistake in him.

“They got away with a few last year because of their position so far ahead of everybody else in the table, but that won’t always be that way.

“If they want to win European cups and that sort of thing, they can’t afford that.

“It’s a hard thing to accept because he is a good player, but they feel they can upgrade on him.

“If they can go out and get a replacement, like Marc Guehi for example, it’s something they’re going to explore to improve their starting XI.

“And if teams come in for Konate, they’re going to listen to those offers.

“Ideally, they’d like him to sign a contract and then they’ll have a decision to make about who is going to start, but if he doesn’t sign, they want to move him on.”

Joe Gomez update emerges as West Ham and Leeds race

Another defender who could be allowed to leave Anfield this summer is Joe Gomez, who has found himself pushed down the pecking order.

Brown told Football Insider on 24 June that West Ham want to sign Gomez and are prepared to rival the likes of Leeds United for his signature.

Should they be given an indication that the England international, who is not a first choice, will be allowed to leave Anfield, Graham Potter’s side are preparing to make an offer.

However, Football Insider revealed on 23 June that Gomez is happy at Liverpool and has a role to play under Arne Slot after Jarell Quansah agreed to join Bayer Leverkusen.
