The football world is mourning after the death of a former NFL wide receiver this week.
According to the L.A. County medical examiner, Chandler "the Jet" Jones died at the age of 33 on Sunday. Jones was involved in a car accident, as a Toyota RAV4 hit him near the off ramp of a highway, according to the state Highway Patrol.
"It is with great sadness that we share the passing of alum, Chandler Jones ‘09," said Bishop Montgomery High School.
"Jones was a standout player on Bishop's football team and still holds the record for longest kick-off return (97 yards) and longest fumble recovery (98 yards)."
After his stellar high school career, Jones played Division I college football at San Jose State.
"Forever in our hearts, #89," the program wrote on social media. "In loving memory of Spartan wide receiver and coach, Chandler Jones."

After his time with the Spartans, Jones appeared as a practice squad player for multiple NFL teams, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns.
Jones also played in the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes before returning to San Jose State as a coach. Teammates and coaches reflected on Jones' passing this week.
"My heart is truly broken - My good friend and my fellow coach welcomed me with open arms when we met in Idaho," said Arizona State assistant coach Greg Stewart.
"Chandler "The Jet" Jones was the real deal, I will always cherish my time with you my brother."
"From his freshman year as a WR, to coaching on our staff, he made San Jose State football better everyday," said Brent Brennan, Jones' head coach with the Spartans.
"The Jet was special. Love you brother."
Jones is second all-time among San Jose State players in career receiving yards with 3,087. In 2013, Jones was one of the best players in the Mountain West conference, catching 79 passes for 1,356 yards and 15 touchdowns.
He earned first-team all-conference honors for his play that season, and was an honorable mention for the national All-American team.
Rest in peace to Chandler "the Jet" Jones. We send our condolences to his friends, family and loved ones during this difficult time.
