Liverpool player said to have told compatriot he’s leaving Reds–‘Waiting to close’the deal

Darwin Nuñez has been linked with a Liverpool exit since last summer, with it becoming increasingly clear throughout Arne Slot’s first season with the Reds that the exit door was opening up for the Uruguay international.

Multiple Serie A clubs have been linked with the 26-year-old, and it’s Napoli which has looked the most likely destination in recent weeks. Indeed, over the past couple of weeks there’s been multiple reports every day about a potential move from the Premier League winners to the Italian champions.

Antonio Conte has been presented as a fan of the player, and Darwin Nuñez has even been compared to compatriot Edinson Cavani, with the latter having made a big impact at the Serie A side earlier in his career.

Now another compatriot who also used to play for Napoli has spoken to the Italian media and claimed Darwin Nuñez has told him he’s set to leave Liverpool for the club.

Walter Gargano is quoted by [AreaNapoli](https://www.areanapoli.it/interviste/gargano-lancia-la-bomba-nunez-mi-ha-detto-che-viene-a-napoli_597605.html) as saying: “_I spoke to Darwin Nuñez, he told me: ‘Yes, I’m coming to Napoli. I’m waiting to close.’.”_

AreaNapoli state sporting director Giovanni Manna is trying to get the player’s price below €50m, and that Darwin Nuñez is looking forward to playing at the Diego Maradona Stadium.
