Pair of Sacramento Kings’ key players generating ‘strong interest’ from teams

The Sacramento Kings are expected to be very active this offseason as new general manager Scott Perry begins shaping the roster. While DeMar DeRozan is the likeliest to be traded, a few other Kings contributors are being eyed by clubs.

According to The Sacramento Bee‘s Jason Anderson, forward Keegan Murray and guard Keon Ellis are “generating strong interest” from around the NBA. That’s in addition to the teams eyeing DeRozan and Malik Monk.

Sacramento has reportedly been receptive to trading DeRozan and Monk. While DeRozan was acquired just a year ago, he proved to be a poor fit with the team, and the general manager who acquired him is now gone. Many around the NBA viewed him as one of the next proverbial dominoes to fall once Kevin Durant was traded.

Monk, who originally signed with the Kings to play with close friend De’Aaron Fox, is entering the second season of a four-year, $77.975 million contract. He carries an $18.797 million cap hit this upcoming season, followed by a $20.19 million cap hit the following year. Monk also has a $21.582 million player option in 2027.

Notably, per Anderson, Sacramento “would be reluctant” to move Murray or Ellis. While Murray is entering a contract year, he would still be a restricted free agent in 2026. Like Ellis, he provides the Kings with desperately needed defensive ability.

For now, Sacramento appears focused on fielding trade calls for DeRozan and Monk. If the front office is successful in moving off DeRozan’s contract and acquiring a first-round pick, Murray and Ellis will likely remain with the team through the summer.
