Liverpool are reportedly planning an interesting move to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli by offering two players as part of a sweetener for CEO Aurelio De Laurentiis.
The Nigerian striker is one of the forwards are assessing as they consider how to take their side to the next level even after committing to what could be £116m total for Florian Wirtz.
The German is expected to be a total hit in the Premier League and so it seems likely the add-ons in his deal will be activated if and when Wirtz wins major silverware with the Reds.
And after signing Giorgi Mamardashvili last summer, adding Jeremie Frimpong this summer and being on the precipice of signing Milos Kerkez, Liverpool want to do more.
They reportedly still want a top centre-back and striker to join the club’s emerging superteam. Liverpool were already one of the top three clubs in Europe along with PSG but with Wirtz and another superstar, the Reds will have a truly formidable side.
The likes of Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah are no slouches either.
Liverpool are scheming to sign Osimhen from Napoli for £17m plus two players
According to journalist Sebastien Vidal, Liverpool are exploring alternatives to signing Alexander Isak for obvious reasons and have launched a “shock offer” to Napoli for Osimhen that involves sending Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa to Italy in exchange for the Nigerian striker.
Reporting via Twitter, Vidal claims: “Faced with the complexity of the Isak case, Liverpool have launched a shock offer to Napoli: Darwin Núñez plus Federico Chiesa plus £17 million to sign Victor Osimhen.
“Arne Slot wants an elite No. 9 to defend the title. Napoli are listening, but want more. Man Utd are also in the running…
“A big showdown is coming.”
Devant la complexité du dossier Isak, Liverpool a lancé une offre choc à Naples : Darwin Núñez + Federico Chiesa + 17M£ pour recruter Victor Osimhen ?

If this is true, which remains to be seen, Liverpool would be signing a sensational striker for barely any capital relatively speaking while offloading two players Arne Slot has deemed surplus to requirements.
Osimhen could be the player to take Liverpool’s attack to new heights and for a bargain price
Wirtz is going to add creativity and pockets of space that didn’t exist without an elite No.10 in this Liverpool team and with a top striker, his 15 goals and 16 assists only stand to increase next season.
Osimhen could be that player after scoring 37 goals for Galatasaray this season. It’s no fluke despite the quality of the Turkish league compared to the Premier League.
The two campaigns prior he scored 31 and 17 for Napoli in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons respectively. His final season with the Italian side was fractured to say the least but his huge goal haul this season suggests that if he’s happy he will provide a bucket load of goals.
Of course, the upgrade on Darwin Nunez would be huge but the low capital investment would allow Liverpool to keep their summer spending within the bounds of reason whereas signing Isak would certainly not.
£17m plus two fringe players for Osimhen does sound unlikely but if it were to happen, it would be a masterstroke from recent sporting director hire Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, who rejoined the club in March 2024 as the CEO of Football.
There is certainly concrete interest from Napoli in Nunez but whether or not this is a deal the notorious owner and CEO of Napoli Aurelio De Laurentiis may not entertain a deal like this but time will tell.
