Chelsea couldn’t quite close the deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens earlier this month, but after putting that pursuit on hold briefly, we are apparently back to it and getting quite close to earning our coffee this time.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, talks between the two sides have continued since the transfer window entered its brief pause, and a deal now “could be done imminently” though no actual transfer agreement has been reached yet. Personal terms with the 20-year-old winger were already agreed weeks ago however, and that remains unchanged over a proposed 7-year deal.
Bayern Munich were linked recently, which may have served to motivate things along. Chelsea had reportedly submitted two bids in early June, €35m then €50m, but were rejected both times with BVB supposedly looking for something in the €65-70m range. That’s a pretty big range of values; can we find a reasonable common ground?
Signing Gittens would presumably put a damper on any Alejandro Garnacho rumors, at least for now.
Despite links with Bayern, Chelsea are close to completing Jamie Bynoe-Gittens deal!
