Some breaking news on Tuesday afternoon as Newcastle United have made their first major bid of the 2025 summer transfer window.
In his latest exclusive for [The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6409212/2025/06/24/anthony-elanga-newcastle-transfer/), David Ornstein reveals that Newcastle have launched a bid in the region of £45m for Anthony Elanga.
However, Nottingham Forest’s response to the offer has been immediate, with the Reds rejecting the bid and signalling that they have ‘no intention’ of selling the 23-year-old winger this summer.
Ornstein reports that Newcastle are yet to come back with a counter bid, with Toon chiefs now deciding whether to maintain their pursuit of the Swedish international or turn to other targets.
The piece also reveals details of our offer for Elanga on deadline day last summer, claiming our bid featured an initial £30m, Miguel Almiron – who we valued at £5m – and two potential future payments worth £5m.
A full season later, the package offered comes to around £45m, although that comes after the right winger bagged six goals and 12 assists over an impressive season at the City Ground.
