Ethan Nwaneri may miss all of Arsenal’s preseason tour due to his commitments with England Under-21s at the European U21 Championship in Slovakia.

Nwaneri, who had a breakout season for Arsenal during the 2024/25 campaign, has been making waves with his talent and versatility on the pitch. The 18-year-old has been a regular fixture in Mikel Arteta’s squad, making 37 appearances in all competitions and scoring nine goals.

Nwaneri’s ability to play on the right wing, in attacking midfield, or as a makeshift No.9 has made him a valuable asset to the team. However, his participation in the European U21 Championship means he will not be available for Arsenal’s preseason tour, which is set to begin on July 19.

The club’s tour schedule includes games against AC Milan and Newcastle in Singapore, as well as a match against Tottenham in Hong Kong.

The youngster is currently showcasing his talent with England Under-21s at the European U21 Championship in Slovakia. He was a second-half substitute as England beat Spain 3-1 on Saturday to secure a place in the semi-finals, with the young Three Lions playing Netherlands in the last four on Wednesday.

Nwaneri has featured in all four of England Under-21s’ games so far, although he is yet to contribute with a goal or assist. If England do progress past Netherlands, they will face one of Germany or France in the final, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 28 in Bratislava.

As per FIFA guidelines, players must have a three-week break following the conclusion of the season, which will impact Nwaneri and when he can return to pre-season training with Arsenal.

If England Under-21s reach the final on Saturday, June 28, Nwaneri could start preseason training on July 19. A defeat to Netherlands would mean the teenager can join up with the Gunners squad on July 16. In either case, Nwaneri is likely to miss the entirety of Arsenal’s preseason tour.

Although he may join his teammates just before flying to Singapore, his late arrival could impact his preparation and chances of featuring in Mikel Arteta’s preseason squad plans.

Despite likely missing the start of preseason, Nwaneri’s talent and dedication are likely to keep him in the spotlight. With Arteta’s guidance, Nwaneri has made significant progress, and his future with Arsenal looks bright. The youngster has expressed his desire to learn from Arteta and make his mark on the team.
