Just like last summer, it appears that Newcastle United are trying to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.
Reports in the UK today, specifically from David Ornstein, claim that Newcastle have seen a £45m offer for the Swedish international rejected. According to his information, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have no plans to sell the 23-year-old this summer.
[It’s a similar situation to last summer](https://sportwitness.co.uk/anthony-elanga-says-hes-spoken-to-alexander-isak-about-transfer-to-newcastle-united/), when Elanga became a target for Newcastle United late in the window and the Magpies saw their efforts rebuffed.
They were determined to keep the winger and that proved to be a smart choice, as he went on to be a key player in a super season that saw them narrowly miss out on qualifying for the Champions League.
He was asked about the interest from Newcastle back in September, though, and revealed he’d spoken to Alexander Isak, his international teammate, about it.
_“The environment in Nottingham is good,”_ he said at the time.
_“It is clear that you can see that Newcastle are interested, it means that I am playing good football when a big club shows interest. But Nottingham is also a big club, they have won two Champions Leagues, even though it was before I was born. I’m happy in Nottingham and have a contract there._
_“Isak talked to me about it. But I said the same to him as I say to you. We have a good relationship and good chemistry when we play together, but I have a contract with Nottingham.”_
If Elanga had hoped that would end any questions about Newcastle, it didn’t. Instead, earlier this month it was a subject of interest once again.
Reports at the time had revived Newcastle’s interest and [he was once again asked](https://sportwitness.co.uk/anthony-elanga-newcastle-united-nottingham-forest-alexander-isak/) about the prospect of moving to Newcastle United.
_“There is a lot of talk,”_ he said.
_“I focus on what I can do, and my focus today was on the match. In football there are always rumours. The most important thing is that I focus on what I can control._
_“I guess there will always be scouts wherever I play. As long as I stay focused and do my best in the match. I just keep my focus and what I can control. That’s what I can do on and off the field. I focus on the next day and action. That’s what I can do.”_
