Bills coach Sean McDermott may have his hands full with one divisional opponent this year.
The Buffalo Bills 2025 season is only a few months away. This year could be one of the biggest years for quarterback Josh Allen and head coach Sean McDermott.
Allen won the NFL’s Most Valuable Player of the Year Award last season, but now it’s time for the young quarterback to win the Super Bowl.
Allen will turn 30 next season, and once a quarterback hits their early 30s, they could start to slow down.
Even though Allen is at the top of his game right now, he has done everything for the Bills in the last seven years, from running to throwing, and the hits on his body are going to add up over time.
Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was used in a similar manner to Allen, and he was out of the NFL by the time he was 32 because his body could no longer handle the league.
Every season Allen plays and is healthy is a blessing, and hopefully, this season, he stays healthy for every single game, allowing the Bills to make a run toward the Super Bowl.
Allen isn’t the only person in the organization with tons of pressure on them, and head coach Sean McDermott could be in a make-or-break season.
Bills Head Coach Snubbed In Rankings
McDermott is one of the best head coaches in the NFL, but every winter, he struggles to win the big game and advance his team to the Super Bowl.
People around the league are taking notice of McDermott’s significant struggles in games, and Pro Football Focus’ Dalton Wassermanranked the top 10 returning coaches in 2025, but McDermott didn’t make the list.
It’s somewhat surprising that McDermott isn’t on the list of top ten head coaches, considering he has won 86 regular-season games in eight years and made the playoffs seven times.
McDermott is a top-ten head coach in the NFL, even though he didn’t make PFF’s list.
McDermott Is Better Than Stefanski
Even Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski made the top ten list, and he had three wins last season. Here is what Wasserman wrote about the Browns’ head coach.
“Stefanski has dealt with a cascade of issues in Cleveland, particularly surrounding the Deshaun Watson trade and subsequent contract extension. However, the two-time NFL Coach of the Year deserves respect as someone who gets his team to compete regardless of the circumstances. Stefanski broke the Browns’ long playoff drought in 2020 and picked up the franchise’s first playoff win since reentering the league in 1999. He also led a surge to the postseason in 2023 with Joe Flacco as his quarterback from Week 14 onward. Stefanski has proven he can succeed if given even adequate offensive tools. The team just needs to provide him with that to complement its excellent defense.”
Even though Stefanski has won the NFL Head Coach of the Year Award twice, there is no way he is better than McDermott, who has consistently had his team in the playoffs.
McDermott has a lot to prove this season, and hopefully, he will win a Super Bowl and prove all the doubters wrong.
