Jacob Ramsey could leave Aston Villa this summer to ease Profit and Sustainability concerns.

The 24-year-old has struggled for game time under Unai Emery this season and only started around half of Villa’s matches.

The arrival of Marco Asensio and injury issues limited his appearances and he appears to be one of the candidates for an exit to fix the financial problems that are brewing in the West Midlands.

Ramsey tipped for Villa exit amid PSR concerns

A report from The Athletic (23 June) claims that the Villa Park outfit have a £50million deficit in their accounts, so will need to sell a player to balance the books.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that Ramsey could be the man who is allowed to leave in order to make that happen.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, he said: “Well, Jacob Ramsey is a player that they have loved, so you would be surprised.

“But then we are surprised by quite a few things aren’t we, with this PSR thing, I don’t think Newcastle ever wanted to let Elliott Anderson go to Nottingham Forest, but they kind of had to.

“There is sometimes a sacrificial lamb.

“Pure profit as a kid, it would be a little bit sad, that is kind of where we have got to with all the financial constraints that we are wrapping the clubs in these days.”

Villa letting Ramsey leave would sum up the modern game

It is a damning indictment on the state of the game, when clubs are forced to sell academy products as a result of financial regulations.

How are clubs supposed to compete at the very top of the game if the path to getting there is restricted by what you can spend?

Ramsey is an appealing contender for a departure simply because he would represent pure profit as he came through at Bodymoor Heath rather than being bought by the Villans from another academy.

While it would boost the funds available to Monchi and Co to strengthen in the transfer market, it would be a huge shame if he leaves, but it is a realistic possibility.
