2025 NBA Draft Profile: Tyrese Proctor

The Sacramento Kings brought in Duke guard Tyrese Proctor for a pre-draft workout ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft. Could he be an ideal selection for their 42nd pick?

Sacramento enters this week’s NBA Draft in possession of the 42nd overall pick, although they have been widely rumored to be seeking a jump into the first round before Wednesday night’s action gets underway at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

It’s no secret that new general manager Scott Perry will be looking to acquire a point guard this summer, and while it’s unlikely he will find a starting point guard for this roster in the second round of the draft, Proctor could be an intriguing player to add to this team that could always use more three-point shooting.

Scouting report via NBA Draft Room

Tyrese Proctor is a 6-4 combo guard who is a natural scorer who can score in isolation and get into the lane at will. He’s got a smooth jumper with deep range and a remarkable ability to get his own shot.

Proctor has a nice frame that will add more weight as he matures. He might not have the ideal size for the SG position, but the way the league is trending, that’s less of a big deal than it was a few years ago. He’s also a high-level athlete who elevates well and has no problem making plays above the rim.

Tyrese Proctor continues the line of high-level prospects emerging from Australia in recent years.

Does Tyrese Proctor make sense for the Sacramento Kings?

If Sacramento retains the 42nd pick, adding Proctor would provide them with depth at the guard spots behind Malik Monk, Keon Ellis, and Zach LaVine.

Of course, some of those players could be on the move this summer as Perry looks to reshape the roster, but Proctor fits the bill if creating offense and three-point shooting are the priorities.

NBA Drafts are typically hard to predict, but in the Sacramento Kings’ case this year, it’s nearly impossible. What does the NBA Mock Draft landscape think of the Kings’ plans for the 42nd pick?

Sacramento will enter the two-day 2025 NBA Draft on June 25-26 without a first-round pick as it searches for answers to salvaging its current roster. The Kings’ first-round selection was conveyed to Atlanta as part of the 2022 trade that brought Kevin Huerter to the team.

Last year, Sacramento had plenty of prep work to do as they held the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Following a lengthy pre-draft workout and interview process, they landed on Providence guard Devin Carter, who spent most of his rookie season dealing with his recovery and rehab from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

This year, the Kings hold one draft pick–the 42nd overall pick–in the second round, although they could look to move up on draft day.

Here’s how NBA Mock Drafts around the basketball world view the Sacramento Kings’ 42nd pick in the 2025 NBA Draft with just a few days to go until showtime:
