Huge Liverpool spree not over - Sky Sports say Arne Slot wants to make his mark in Europe

Liverpool’s transfer plans confirm that the club is not aiming to leave the famously coined “Perch” that Sir Alex Ferguson spent a long time removing them from.

After Arne Slot won the Premier League in his first season as Liverpool manager, he simultaenously equalled the previously record number of league titles (20) United had won.

Liverpool are now setting their sights not only on a record 21 league titles to mark the total role reversal between the two great rivals but FSG are reportedly planning further massive investment into the side to ensure an era of Liverpool dominance for five to eight years to come.

Manchester City have faltered for the first time since going on a four year run of winning the league – something never before done in England – and Liverpool have sensed blood in the water.

The Reds beat them and Bayern Munich to the superstar acquisition of Florian Wirtz for a club record £100m fee (£16m in add-ons) which on its own is a statement of ambitious intent.

Yet, they have also replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold with an excellent player in Jeremie Frimpong and are close to announcing their move to sign Milos Kerkez after correctly identifying the need to sign a major upgrade on Andy Robertson and Milos Kerkez.

But huge claims today suggest Liverpool are gearing up to big again.

Arne Slot wants to make his mark in Europe with Liverpool as FSG build him squad to compete for the next eight years

Sky Sports are reporting that Liverpool’s spending isn’t done this summer as they look to continue in their mission of building a squad for Arne Slot capable of competing and dominating for the next five to eight years.

Critically, they report that Slot is planning to make a statement next season in Europe with the boss said to be focused on winning the Champions League after losing to eventual winners PSG.

While there were problems that would have been exposed even if Liverpool beat PSG in what was a very evenly balanced tie over the two legs despite the French side being the team to most extensively highlight the flaws and shortcomings of an otherwise top Liverpool team.

The signings Liverpool have already made are exciting alone.

But reports continue to push the idea that a massive signing even after signing Wirtz is still possible.

It is true that Liverpool have cash to spend after several recent quiet transfer windows and off the back of another record profit even before the finances of the Premier League-winning season are released and put under the spotlight.

But it’s also true that signing Wirtz was unlike any transfer Liverpool have made yet.

They were willing to spend over £100m on Caicedo before he chose Chelsea so it’s now clear that FSG aren’t adverse to those type of signings but it’s all about the right one.

Alexander Isak is really the only true superstar that perfectly solves a problem that Liverpool have that is also potentially available if the Reds can somehow tempt Newcastle United financially.

Even then, the Magpies are no longer in danger of PSR sanctions after qualifying for the Champions League which also sweetens the thought of staying at St. James’ Park for Isak.

All in all, it’s exciting to hear that there could be another blockbuster signing but it likely depends on the income that Liverpool could generate through the swathe of high quality players that want to or could be sold.
