Alejandro Garnacho has added fuel to the fire amid speculation of a transfer from Manchester United to Aston Villa.
Aston Villa transfer target Alejandro Garnacho has made perhaps his biggest hint yet amid ongoing uncertainty over his future at Manchester United.
The Argentina international is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer after a falling-out with head coach Ruben Amorim. Villa have been strongly linked with Garnacho in the past few days and weeks as they have made signing a new left winger a priority.
Garnacho has been embroiled in controversy at Man Utd and the relationship between him and the club has been deteriorating. A transfer away has felt like an inevitability for a long while but even more so now the winger has made a rather contentious social media post.

As he’s in a situation comparable to Marcus Rashford’s having been benched and outcast by Amorim, Garnacho has been left frustrated. So much so, the 20-year-old took to Instagram on Monday and included a photo of him wearing a Villa shirt with Rashford’s name on the back.
This has caused an uproar among United fans, while Villans have taken it as a huge hint that he could be in favour of a move to B6. Although Garnacho hasn’t explained why he was wearing the Rashford shirt, it was likely to show his support for his teammate while expressing his frustrations at his own similar predicament.
Several other United players have been spotted in other teams’ shirts but the context is important. Amad Diallo, for instance, was photographed in a Brighton & Hove Albion kit recently but that was understandable as his international teammate Simon Adingra’s name was printed. In the case of Garnacho, it feels like a back-stabbing jibe at United.
Villa must raise funds to afford Garnacho
As much as Garnacho could be a strong addition if he were to join, Villa cannot just pluck transfer funds out of thin air. The Villans are currently walking a fine line with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and need to sell players rather than buy them. Once those issues are out of the way, though, incoming deals are likelier.
No official offers have arrived in Villa’s inbox for transfer-listed pair Emiliano Martinez and Leon Bailey just yet but it could be just a matter of time. Emery will be hoping the situation is resolved sooner rather than later as the June 30 PSR deadline is coming up quickly. Once that’s passed, Villa can think about strengthening their squad.
Even once that’s happened, it will be tricky to land a player of Garnacho’s calibre as United are reportedly demanding around £60 million to let him leave. Ex-Villa striker Stan Collymore believes his former club should do all they can to sign Garnacho, however,
“He speaks the language of Emery and Emery has a track record of developing younger players. I think if Garnacho’s available, he would be fantastic, potentially to come in as an option down the left,” Collymore exclusively told Birmingham World.
“I quite like the idea. I think he’s a proven talent, he’s just played in a circus of a football club for so long now. If Garnacho was willing to get his head down and find a big club that can help him develop with a management team that can do the same, I think that would be one to watch.”
