As the pressure continues to mount on Manchester United to deliver a successful rebuild, other Premier League sides are strengthening with far less financial friction.

Newcastle United, for example, have managed to maintain both momentum and attraction.

Thus, making life even harder for United in their bid to return to the top.

While Old Trafford grapple with various constraints, the Magpies are aggressively backing Eddie Howe and staying ahead of schedule in their long-term project.

And now, David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Newcastle United have made a bid in the region of £45million for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

The offer was swiftly rejected by Forest without a counter.

Ornstein states that Forest have no intention of selling the Sweden international.

Newcastle are now weighing whether to continue their pursuit or switch focus to other targets.

Antoine Semenyo who has also been linked with the Red Devils too, among the names mentioned.

As well as Mohammed Kudus, who is also under discussion.

Elanga played every Premier League game last season under Nuno Espirito Santo.

He netted six goals and assisted 11 times as Forest sealed a Conference League spot.

The 23-year-old joined Forest from Manchester United in 2023 for £15m and has since developed into one of the league’s most consistent wide outlets.

Last summer, Newcastle had explored a similar deal that included cash and a player swap involving Miguel Almiron.

However, the latest approach was a straight financial offer.

Elanga, who has 21 caps and four goals for Sweden, remains a key part of Forest’s plans and looks set to stay at the City Ground.

That is unless a transformative bid comes in.
