Aaron Rodgers makes a major announcement about when he’ll retire

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Quarterback Aaron Rodgers of the Pittsburgh Steelers acknowledged Tuesday that the 2025 NFL season will be his final season.

Rodgers has been a fixture on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, and when the show aired Wednesday, he spoke about his career coming to a close, which is why he only signed to play in Pittsburgh for one season.

“I’m pretty sure this is my last season and that’s why we did the one-year deal,” Rodgers said. “This was really about finishing with fun and peace for the career that I’ve had.”

The 41-year old joined Pittsburgh earlier this month on a deal worth $13.65 million, and he said he is excited to play for one of the league’s storied organizations.

“I’ve played 20 years and I’ve enjoyed it,“ Rodgers said. ”What better place to finish than in one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL with Mike Tomlin.”

Rodgers is remembered for his 18 seasons in Green Bay, winning Super Bowl XLV and game MVP against Pittsburgh. He also has earned four NFL Most Valuable Player awards and a NFL 2010s All-Decade Team selection.

He then spent two seasons with the Jets, a tenure that didn’t meet high expectations due to his Achilles injury, and underwhelming team play.

Rodgers joins a Steelers franchise that’s only missed the playoffs once dating back to 2020 but hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2016 season.

As for Rodgers, he hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2020 season, and hasn’t made the playoffs since 2021.

He is hoping things change during his farewell tour.
