Jonny Evans will already be familiar with many of Manchester United’s academy graduates as he begins his new role at the club.
On the final day of the 2024/25 season, Manchester United bid farewell to Jonny Evans as he announced his retirement from football.
The 37-year-old enjoyed two separate stints at Old Trafford, initially breaking through from the academy in 2006 and spending nine years in the first team, before returning in 2023 for a further two seasons.
However, Evans has agreed a new academy role at United where he will be tasked with managing loan deals for young players and keeping in touch with them about their progress.

Jonny Evans loves Dan Gore but Man United star could leave
A major squad overhaul is expected at United this summer and that includes first-team players as well as academy talents.
Reports suggest Dan Gore is up for sale this summer with United ready to let the 20-year-old leave as he enters the final year of his contract.
However, Evans is a huge admirer of Gore’s mentality and he previously insisted that the youngster has what it takes to thrive at Old Trafford.
Jonny Evans particularly pointed out that Dan Gore has “great character and application” every time he is involved in training.

Gore was included in Amorim’s training sessions last season, but United have a big decision to make on his future.
Now involved in United’s academy setup, Evans has the chance to fight in Gore’s corner and argue that the young midfielder should stay put.
Dan Gore already attracting interest from Rotherham
Gore starred in United’s FA Youth Cup win in 2022 where he formed a solid partnership with Kobbie Mainoo. He was set to follow a similar pathway to his academy teammate who is now a first-team regular, but his progress was hindered by injuries.
In order to gather experience, Gore endured a miserable loan spell at Port Vale where his season was ended through injury.
Gore suffered a fractured foot at Rotherham last season, too, meaning he has hardly had a chance to show his potential elsewhere.

But even if Gore’s game time last season was limited, he clearly made an impact in training as Rotherham’s manager is interested in Gore this summer to bring the midfielder back.
Amorim wants an “athletic midfielder” at United this summer, and Gore will want the chance to prove he can make the step up to the first team.
